News roundup: Sheriff to retire, wolf board, MLHS students keep running
Our Grant County Sheriff is hanging up his spurs, there’s still time to get on the WAG, and a pair of Moses Lake teens are on the fast track. Here’s what’s happening in the Basin today:
Jones retiring
Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones announced yesterday he will be retiring as of July 1. The county commissioners will appoint an interim sheriff to hold down the fort until a new sheriff is elected in November. Jones was first elected in 2010 and has served almost three full terms.
Wolf Advisory Group deadline extended
Anyone interested in helping the state with wolf conservation and management will have a little more time to get on board. The Wolf Advisory Group represents the interests of environmentalists, hunters, livestock producers and other stakeholders. There are currently five vacancies to be filled and prospective members have until June 13 to apply.
Moses Lake duo to run with Spokane Speed Academy
Paige Perkins and Noah Bingham will be running with the Spokane Speed Academy this summer, training in track and field. The two, both sophomores at Moses Lake High School, are looking forward to honing their performance with an eye to improving their profile for college recruitment.
