An armed man walked into the Safeway at 1150 Basin St. SW in Ephrata on Christmas Eve and walked out with hundreds of pain pills, according to Ephrata Police Department Capt. Erik Cook.

“We got dispatched at about 5 p.m. to a robbery at the Safeway pharmacy. Apparently, a gentleman came in wearing a ski mask, approached the pharmacy and provided a note demanding pain medication,” Cook said.

The man reportedly showed a firearm under his jacket and was then provided the drugs he had demanded, Cook said. Once he had received what he’d asked for, he took the note and pills and left the store.

Cook said the man was between 5-feet, 10-inches and 6-feet tall. His clothing prevented much more from being determined other than he had gray eyebrows and was likely white.
