Basin swimmers head to state

FEDERAL WAY — Fifteen Columbia Basin swimmers and divers will be headed to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association state swim and dive meet Feb. 17-19 in Federal Way.

Nine will represent Moses Lake High School and six will represent Quincy High School.

Moses Lake High School boys swim and dive team members have had an excellent year, staying undefeated this season and taking the league and district titles.

In the district meet, several Moses Lake athletes took first place. They include freshman Hunter Blackman in the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Jack Thompson in the 100-yard freestyle, senior Kade Pack in the 200-yard individual medley, junior Danny Thurman in the 50-yard backstroke, sophomore Carter Beus in diving, junior Nicholas Moore in the 500-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay team.

For MLHS, the following boys will swim in the respective event(s) at state:

Senior Issac Patten – 100-yard backstroke, relays

Senior Kade Pack – 200-yard individual medley, relays

Junior Nicholas Moore – 200 and 500-yard freestyle, relays

Junior Ashton McKean – 50 and 100-yard freestyle, relays

Freshman Luke Molitor 100 yard freestyle, relays

Sophomore Damien Paluch – 200-yard freestyle

Sophomore Danny Thurman – 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke adaptive swims

Sophomore Carter Beus – dive

Sophomore Dallin DeGooyer – dive

Freshman Vince Bodenman – alternate

Freshman Dylan Moore – alternate

For Quincy Lake High School, the following boys will swim in the respected event(s) at state:

Senior Wyatt van der Merwe – 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle

Junior Rami Escure – 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke

Junior Trenten Calloway – 100-yard freestyle, 100 yard butterfly

Sophomore Quinn Escure – relays

Sophomore Robert Bensch – alternate

Sophomore Kaleb Klempel – alternate
