Trip to gun range provides new insights
MOSES LAKE - My wife, Garnet, and I begin planning to attend the four-day-long SHOT Show six month before arriving in Las Vegas. We make airline and hotel reservations and we prefer to fly on Alaska and stay at the Stratosphere.
Sick bighorns to be removed from Yakima River Canyon
This is simply a darn shame. Wild sheep have had their problems throughout the Pacific Northwest from time to time and now sheep in the Yakima River Canyon are affected.

MOSES LAKE - It's time to pause and look back at the past year through the outdoors window. The past 12 months offered many fruitful outings and corresponding memories. It was a great year.
Fog hampers duck, goose hunting
The recent days of fog, or has it been weeks, has made duck and goose hunting difficult recently. One goose day saw no geese for a friend who traveled to the Columbia Basin for a hunt.
Being a successful goose-hunting guide requires work and know-how
A goose guiding operation requires plenty of ground to hunt, gobs of decoys and guides who know how to blow a goose call. Luck has little to contribute to the process.
Deer hunting season begins Saturday
The modern rifle deer season begins on Saturday, Oct. 17 and remains open through Oct. 27. Good luck to all of the hunters. Have fun, but be careful out there. Oh yeah, let me know how you do in the great outdoors. I'm always looking for photos to post here.

Song dogs pleasant to hear, but not too close to home
The two dogs, one a German Shepard and the other a black lab, were standing beside the road and on top of a 10-foot high basalt cliff. Both were panting hard with their tongues hanging out. They were looking for something as their heads moved left and right, scanning the countryside.

Tuesday morning I had the honor to have breakfast with Kayne Robinson, the president of the National Rifle Association. It wasn't that we were seated across the table from each other, but rather, we were in the same room with about 500 fellow members of the Outdoor Writers Association of America in Spokane.
