Surging soy, U.S. dollar quotes highlight Friday futures trading

Resurgent soybeans pulled corn higher Friday. Prospects for good early-November harvest weather and today’s big U.S. dollar jump pushed corn futures lower around midsession Friday. However, talk of extreme short-term tightness apparently powered the soy complex higher once again, which then pulled corn upward as well. December corn futures closed up 2.75 cents at $3.7675/bushel Friday, while May added 2.25 to $3.98.

Moses Lake defeats Eastmont in four games

It was an important win for the Chiefs on Tuesday night on their home court against Big 9 rival Eastmont. The 3-1 victory kept Moses Lake in the hunt for the postseason as they remained in third place behind Wenatchee and Eisenhower by improving their conference record to .500 with a 3-3 record. Down the stretch contending with Eisenhower (6-0 in league) and Wenatchee (5-1 in league) will be no easy task, but with the momentum building it is not out of the question now.

Hog markets led cattle lower on Friday

Grain futures remained surprisingly stable Friday. Strong employment data and mixed economic numbers boosted stocks and sent the U.S. dollar soaring Friday morning. The fact that corn and wheat futures remained firm in the face of those moves was impressive. Bulls are crediting the storm system slowing the corn harvest and short covering. December corn futures ended the week 0.5 cent higher at $3.2325/bushel, while May added 0.75 to $3.45.
