REC Silicon checked out for safety complaint
MOSES LAKE — The Washington Department of Labor & Industries carried out an inspection at the REC Silicon facility in Moses Lake Feb. 13. “The inspection was a required response to a complaint received by Labor & Industries concerning various topics pertaining to the Moses Lake facility,” REC Silicon officials wrote in a statement released Sunday. Matt Ross, a spokesman for L&I, said the inspection was initiated due to a worker complaint. Requests to REC Silicon for comment as to the nature of the complaint were not returned by press time.

The purpose of the Grant is to study, map and manage noxious weeds that are a detriment to the recreational and aesthetic values of Moses Lake.
Dorothy Braunwart
Dorothy Braunwart passed away on September 18, 2012 at the age of 90, of natural causes, in Othello Washington. She was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on December 15, 1921, the second of four children born to Herman & Elsie Vauble. Dorothy married Robert Braunwart on May 31, 1944. They moved to Washington State in 1947 ending up in Moses Lake in 1952 and lived there until 2006. She moved to Othello to stay with her son Kurt and family in 2006 where she lived until her passing. Dorothy was a founding member of the Columbia Basin Community Concert Association. She wrote the weekly newspaper column, "Just Everyday" about her four sons growing up in Moses Lake for the Columbia Basin Herald from 1954 through 1971. She also was the regional correspondent for the Spokane Chronicle, a published poet and an artist. She was involved in PTA, served as a board member on the Moses Lake Conservation District, was a member of the Friends of the Library, a benefactor and volunteer for the Moses Lake Museum of Art and Culture, and a long time parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Moses Lake.
Juan O. Lopez
Juan (Johnny as he was known by his friends) O. Lopez, 83, of Moses Lake, Washington, passed away July 27, 2013. He was born in El Rosario, Mexico on October 10, 1929 to parents, Antonio Lopez and Maria Ortiz. He was the eldest of nine siblings. Juan came to the United States when he was nine years old and worked on the various farms. He was married to Manuela Maria Mendez on September 12, 1949 in Edinburg, Texas. Juan continued to work with Harry Yamamoto on his farm until being hired by the City of Warden in 1975. Johnny was respected for his work ethics and willingness to provide services at any hour of the day, especially to perform "snow-plowing." He is honored for his dedicated service on retiring after 18 years in 1993. Juan enjoyed local fishing, playing card games with family, caring for his garden, watching cowboy movies, listening to the weather channel, and meeting his retired friends for coffee at McDonalds. Juan and Manuela Lopez enjoyed 64 years of marriage and had five children together.
