Bird likely cause of Moses Lake outage
MOSES LAKE — A bird that got too close to electrical wires apparently triggered a power outage in the Wheeler Road area that lasted about two hours Thursday morning. “A bird touched an energized component in the (Wheeler substation) while also in contact with a grounded component. This caused a distribution fault and the protective relay system operated to interrupt and clear the fault,” wrote Christine Pratt, PUD public information officer, in reply to an email from the Columbia Basin Herald. The outage occurred about 8:30 a.m., and electricity was restored about 10 a.m.

Storing plants and flowers through the winter
Rather than starting fresh next spring, there are plenty of plants that can be saved from your garden or lawn for next season. Making sure your plants are stored properly helps ensure they make it through the winter.

I have now stayed at El Rancho at least half a dozen times, and I always have a very pleasant experience. Terry is hands on about every little thing, and I have received immediate attention to any little detail that needs to be handled--graciously and kindly, I might add. I'm not sure about "no frills" since I appreciate the spaciousness and touches like an additional sink area outside the main bathroom and a kitchenette, if you need one, is available as an option. I even appreciate a clock radio I don't need an owners manual to figure out that works, and a hard-wired internet connection for no fee. I'll be back.
Driver dies in I-90 rollover
GEORGE — A 24-year-old Quincy woman died in a single-vehicle collision west of George Wednesday night. The driver, whose name was not released pending notification of family, was driving east on South Frontage Road West in a 2009 Pontiac, according to a statement from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. The car went off the pavement and onto the soft shoulder, whereupon the driver overcorrected, causing the car to spin. The car struck a barbed wire fence, then rolled several times across the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90, coming to rest on the median cable barrier, according to the GCSO. The victim, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car and died at the scene. The GCSO’s Motor Traffic Unit is investigating.
