FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Sports apparel and shoe company Adidas saw its earnings fall sharply in the first quarter as the virus outbreak closed 70% of its global store base. Net profit from continuing operations fell 97% to only 20 million euros from 631 million euros in the same period a year ago.

SPOKANE — Sixteen students from the Columbia Basin were named to the honor roll at Spokane Community College for winter quarter 2023, which ended in March, according to a statement from the college. The honor roll lists those students who achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or above.Those listed below were recognized for meeting that academic standard.

On Sept. 30, 2022, Patricia Jean Martinez, beloved wife, mother and sister, passed away at her home. She was 65 years old when she died. She was born Patricia Jean Hooper on May 22, 1957, in Kennewick, Washington. Her parents were Charles Austin Hooper and Margaret (Peggy) Tway. Peggy passed away and Charles remarried Bonnie Jones; both are deceased. Patricia married Alfonso (Al) Martinez Jr. on July 23, 1977, in Kennewick, Washington. Al passed away on March 4, 2008. They are both survived by their only child Alfonso Martinez III (Tri), his wife Jessica Martinez and their six children. Patricia was the fifth child of Charles Hooper. Her siblings were Margaret, John Hooper, Helen Hennessy, Mary Joe Moutry, Reinna (deceased), Kenny Hooper and Allen Hooper and step-siblings Craig and Nancy Glass.

Raymond Everette Appling Sr. passed away in Yakima, Washington on Oct. 22, 2022. He was born Nov. 10, 1943, in Rogers, Arkansas, the oldest of six children born to Everett and Ovie (Hass) Appling. In 1961, he joined the U.S. Army. He was discharged in 1962 due to the residual effects of a farming accident at age 16. In the fall of 1963, Ray was rousted out of bed to “Go help that pretty little girl with her car.” On March 9, 1964, he married that pretty little girl, Alcenia Turner, in Exeter, California.

Woman arrested for stealing, selling metal pump parts

MOSES LAKE — Deputies with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Moses Lake woman on Tuesday accused of stealing metal from an irrigation equipment retailer and selling it for scrap to a local metal dealer, according to a GCSO statement. According to the statement, 38-year-old Magaly Diaz Luna was arrested after staff at Moses Lake Iron & Metal became suspicious of the brass pump impellers Luna was trying to sell them. Staff had recently been informed by Irrigators Inc. that pump impellers had been stolen from their Moses Lake property, the statement said, after Irrigators Inc. staff found a hole in their fence and several impellers missing from a pallet. Diaz had reportedly sold brass impellers to Moses Lake Iron & Metal six different times since mid-March, the statement said, and was paid the scrap rate of roughly $1,900. According to the GCSO statement, employees with Irrigators Inc. were able to identify the impellers as belonging to the company.
