CLEVELAND (AP) — The Seattle Mariners managed to break a seven-game losing streak over the weekend with a 4-2 victory against the Cleveland Guardians. The two teams played a three-game series with Cleveland taking two wins to Seattle’s one.

MOSES LAKE – On Thursday, Mavs slowpitch (16-1) defeated the Eastmont Wildcats 13-3 to become the 4A District Champions and punched their ticket to the state tournament. After splitting a doubleheader to end their season, Head Coach Mike Hofheins said they were on a mission.
Mavs earn home win over Ike
MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks volleyball team (4-3) got back on track with a 3-1 home win over Eisenhower Tuesday night. “I think this just gave us some confidence back and just made us realize that this is how we should be playing every game,” said Mavs player Madison Witwer. “I think we came out thinking that we refined some things that we’ve been wanting to work on.”
Jacks overcome Tigers in OT
QUINCY – On Tuesday, the Jacks (6-3-1) overcame the Ephrata Tigers (3-3-2) in penalty kicks to secure a 1-0 victory. The Jacks goalkeeper Aylen Garcia came up big for her team in the penalty kicks at the end of the game.
ACH Warriors open season with win
COULEE CITY — The Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors (1-0) opened their season on the road against the Garfield-Palouse Vikings with a 40-12 victory last Friday. After having their first game canceled due to smoke, Head Coach Brandon Walsh said his team was excited to hit the gridiron.

SOAP LAKE – The Soap Lake Eagles (8-3) earned a statement victory over the Waterville-Mansfield Shockers Monday night on their fifth straight weekday of games. This win was significant as it was not only their sixth straight win, but it was the team’s first victory over the Shockers.

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks Football team (8-0) tacked on another victory to their season Friday night when they hosted West Valley and won 72-7. The Mavs sit on top of the Big 9 after completing their final home game of the regular season.
Wahluke upsets Knights at Royal City
ROYAL CITY — The Wahluke Warriors (12-6) defeated the Royal Knights (13-4) 1-0 on Tuesday after outdueling them in overtime penalty kicks. It was a physical game from the beginning; Warriors Head Coach Cele Lopez said he was proud of the way his players stuck through it.
Mavs win first league game off dominant second half
MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Mavericks (3-2) earned a statement league win over the Wenatchee Panthers 82-56. Head Coach Craig Groth said it was great to start league play with a win. “It's a good win,” he said. “It's going to be a battle no matter who you're up against. Our players know coming in that we had to play our best from start to finish. It took us a little while to get going. Once we got going, the buckets started to fall. Our defense started to come together as a team.”

QUINCY — The Quincy Jacks (2-5) defeated the visiting Othello Huskies (1-6) 58-54 in overtime Saturday. Quincy Head Coach Johan Farias said a league win was a great confidence booster for them. “We have a fairly young team and just knowing time and situation management, especially when we're up. That game should have not gone to overtime, but it did, but we pulled it off, so I'm happy,” Farias said.

New York (AP) — Stocks resumed falling in early trading on Wall Street Thursday as layoffs remain stubbornly high across the country and Congress stalls on sending aid to out-of-work Americans. The S&P 500 was 0.5% lower and now is 10% below its early September high, what market watchers call a correction. Unemployment claims rose slightly to a historically high 870,000 last week, worse than economists expected. Stocks have slumped following months of strong gains. Among the reasons behind the abrupt tumble are worries that stocks simply grew too expensive following their record-setting run through the spring and summer.
