Fresh news from MarDon Resort
Early spring weather has been amazing in Central Washington. With 70-degree temperatures coming to the Potholes Recreation Area we can only predict another memorable March fishing weekend. Bass fishers are reporting late day surface water temperatures in the mid-50-degree range and largemouth are providing good action later in the day when the sun has warmed in the shallows. For better largemouth action in the sand dunes, fish late in the day with a southern exposure to the sand dunes. Also, when sight fishing focus on black sand not white sand lake bottom for best early season action. Smallmouth are already providing action using crawdad diving plugs on points in the Lind Coulee Area, or try flipping jigs and drop shotting plastics. And as always try the pre-spawn bite around Goose Island and along O'Sullivan Dam for smallmouth and an occasional largemouth bass.
The Fishin' Magician
Summer run salmon fishing continues to attract a lot of attention here in Central Washington. Both kings and sockeye continue to move up the Columbia in great numbers and anglers are out in force on the many known hot spots on the upper river. You can expect to see heavy traffic from salmon anglers on the Columbia from Rock Island to Rocky Reach Dam this weekend. The 2nd Annual CCA Wenatchee Salmon Derby kicks off on Friday, July 19th.

Fresh News From MarDon
Hot Mid-July weather has warmed up surface water temperatures at Potholes Reservoir to 80F and the water elevation currently sits at 1,040 Ft., roughly 7 feet below full pool. To me this means two things; enjoyable summer swimming on the sand dunes or the Mardon Resort Beach, and especially topwater bass fishing in the evening after work. Even with the gully washing rain from the recent string of thunderstorms, and the sustained damage to farmers from the harsh weather, Potholes Reservoir continues to drop at a rapid pace seeing a 1-2 foot drop per week now. This rapidly creates more beach area here at the resort, exposes more sand dunes, and ramps up the action for bass fishing!
