MLSD reads three policies, no votes occurred

QUINCY – The Jacks (8-4-1) put together a hard-fought win over the Huskies (7-5-1) showing their grit and squeezing out a 3-2 victory. Head coach Hector Vaca was amazed by his team's performance.
MLSD hires new transpo directors
MOSES LAKE — Longtime Moses Lake School District employee Dyan Ford has been named one of two people to lead MLSD’s transportation department. Ford will be the Director of Transportation,Personnel. Amiee Cook, currently director of transportation for the Prosser School District, will take over as Director of Transportation, Operations.

Master Gardener plant sale to offer veggies, flowers and solid advice
MOSES LAKE — If you haven’t put out your garden yet, it’s not too late. The WSU Grant-Adams Master Gardeners will hold their annual plant sale May 3 at McCosh Park. “We’ll have lots of different kinds of vegetables,” said Master Gardener Diane Escure. “I think we’ve got maybe 12 different kinds of heirloom tomatoes. We have herbs, we have flowering plants, geraniums, sweet potato vines.”

MOSES LAKE — Thursday’s may have been the biggest job fair Big Bend Community College has held. “About 700 job seekers came through here today, maybe more,” organizer Michelle Arceo said about halfway through the four-hour event.

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks came out on top in their game against Eastmont Tuesday night with a 1-0 victory. “Once in a while we have our downs, but today was up,” said Mavs’ Joaquin Cervantes. “I’ve seen a lot of our players give it our all and that’s what I’m proud of.”

Moses Lake looks toward heavy match load as the season progresses
MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks boys and girls tennis teams both earned team wins in their matches against Eastmont Tuesday afternoon. “It was fun, they’re a very nice team,” said Mavs’ Carsen Owens who played third singles for the boys. “I was just trying to stay calm and focus on the point."
Warden freshman Everett Cox sinks hole in one
WARDEN – When April 10 rolled around, Everett Cox, a freshman on the boys golf team for the Warden Cougars, hit the green early to work on his putting and chipping prior to the team's match against Chewelah at Sage Hills Golf Course. He said it felt like a pretty normal morning to him as he got in some last-minute practice.
Huskies baseball dominates against Seattle U
SEATTLE – The Huskies baseball team (19-19) was dominant in their game against Seattle University (13-23), pitching a 22-0 shutout, according to a statement by University of Washington Athletics. Their 22-run performance included three home runs and a grand slam and was their fourth shutout of the year.

WENATCHEE — A donation from a longtime Wenatchee physician helped Confluence Health officials buy equipment for an upgraded patient monitoring system and simulators for emergency response.

OLYMPIA – Washington State House Bill 1163 passed the Senate with a vote of 29 to 19 Monday following its earlier passage in the house. The bill seeks to implement stricter regulations surrounding the purchase, transfer and possession of firearms by requiring a permit to purchase them.

Knights hope to continue to sharpen their skills against strong opponents
ROYAL CITY – The Royal Knights girls tennis team earned a 4-1 victory against Wapato in their Monday afternoon matches. “We started pretty slow and then we kind of got into it in the first set, but we weren’t playing our best today,” said Cambpelle Anderson, girls first doubles team for the Knights. “Just focusing on the simple things like serving and returning serves.”

MATTAWA — Wahluke High School junior Diana Barber said her performance in regional SkillsUSA competition left her a little unsure going into state competition. While she was satisfied with her performance on the test in the medical math category, she just wasn’t sure. “I try not to get my hopes up,” she said.
