Eagles women's soccer earns first win

CHENEY – The Eastern Washington women’s soccer team picked up their first win of the season on Sunday with a final score of 2-1 over the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, according to a statement by EWU athletics. “Two fantastic goals in the second half really put us in control,” said Eastern Head Coach Missy Strasburg. “Credit to Kam for a huge save at 2-0—that was a momentum-shifting moment. If that goes in, it's a completely different game with confidence swinging their way. That mindset, that grit in the final minutes of a tight game, says a lot.”

THE CHEAP SEATS with STEVE CAMERON: Seahawks might be worth the wager — not by me, of course, but perhaps Addison

I know, it’s only been two exhibition games. But I’m willing to bet that the Seahawks' offensive line is massively improved. Oops. Unfortunately, my own ethics prevent me from betting on the Seahawks.

High-tech model trains stop at GC Fair

MOSES LAKE — This is not your grandfather’s electric train set. “In the old days, you had a dial,” said Steve Riegel, who oversaw the model railroad display in the Youth Building at the Grant County Fair last week. “You turned it one way and (the trains) all went forward. Then you stop it, you put it in reverse, it all goes in reverse. In today’s world, we can have (multiple trains) on the same track, any direction, any speed.”

Volunteering at the fair can be a family affair

MOSES LAKE — The benches in the horticulture building at the Grant County Fair are filled with flowers, carefully matched with entries and ribbons. Of course, somebody has to do all the work of matching the ribbons to the right flowers. That was the work of the two sisters and their children sitting around a table piled with supplies. “We’re the Kalamakis crew,” said Hailey Everett, Spokane.
