Quincy street plan subject of July 1 public hearing
QUINCY — The Quincy City Council will hold a hearing July 1 to solicit public opinion on the city’s six-year street improvement plan. It's scheduled for 6 p.m. during the regular council meeting at Quincy City Hall, 104 B St. SW. Some proposed street improvements are tied to development, and others, said Quincy Engineer Ariel Belino, are added because the streets in question need some work.
Ephrata School Board to consider potential bond Monday
EPHRATA – At the regular school board meeting Monday, the board will receive a presentation from the Facility Study Group for the board to consider placing a $75 million bond on the Feb. 2026 ballot.
Moses Lake sit-sleep-lie ordinance approved
MOSES LAKE — New regulations in Moses Lake for sleeping, lying or sitting on sidewalks within a designated zone during specific times of day were approved Tuesday by the Moses Lake City Council. New rules governing shopping carts taken from businesses also were approved, but any fines levied against businesses that own shopping carts will be deferred for 90 days. Council member Deanna Martinez asked for additional time to look at alternatives for dealing with shopping carts once they’re abandoned.
Fire burns about 3 acres along Moses Lake
MOSES LAKE — A fire blackened about three acres and required a return visit from Moses Lake Fire Department crews Sunday afternoon. A press release from the city said the fire apparently was caused by an illegal campfire. No one was injured, and no homes were threatened.

Ag markets diverged Friday morning
The grain markets followed soybeans higher Friday morning. Little fresh news concerning corn has emerged this morning, but grain market bulls were clearly encouraged by the big soybean sale announced this morning. The strong U.S. Employment report was also encouraging, but the fact that it sent the dollar to fresh five-year highs may have limited gains. March corn futures gained4.5 cents to $3.9425/bushel late Friday morning, while July bounced 4.5 to $4.0925.

Favorable crop prospects seemed to renew pressure on CBOT corn Wednesday. Talk that recent corn and wheat losses will reinvigorate demand boosted those markets Tuesday night, but yellow grain increases prices couldn’t be sustained. Traders apparently resumed their recent sales in response to the favorable moisture situation across the Corn Belt. July corn slipped 2.0 cents to $4.5625/bushel in late Wednesday trading, while December slid 0.75 cent to $4.535.
