QUINCY MAYORAL RACE: Manny Rodriguez
QUINCY – Manny Rodriguez is on the ballot to run for Mayor of Quincy. The 35-year-old raised in Quincy said he hopes to give back to the community that he grew up in. “Based on just my lived experiences, I think I’m more than qualified to run for mayor here in the small town of Quincy,” said Rodriguez. “We have under 10,000 residents and they all look like me. We have a 90% Latino population here in Quincy, so I think it’s very important that we have somebody in leadership that really represents our community.”

MOSES LAKE CITY COUNCIL Pos. 5: Joel Graves
MOSES LAKE – Joel Graves is a candidate for Position 5 on the Moses Lake City Council and has a background that encompasses both public service and private industry. Graves said he aims to address the most pressing issues facing Moses Lake, including public safety, affordable housing and economic development. “I am very hopeful about our city, and I love Moses Lake, and I think that we sell ourselves short so often as a city,” Graves said. “There's a lot of negative stigma about Moses, mostly on Facebook. We have problems, of course, but what city doesn't have issues. We have great resources here. We have plenty of land, and we have a relatively low cost of living. We have people, employers, who actually want to move here, and we should celebrate that. So, I'm very hopeful about our city, and I plan to be here like I want my great-grandkids to be here.”
Huskies’ Ozuna ready for Big Bend baseball
OTHELLO – In the top of the fifth inning of the regional game of the Othello Huskies versus WF West Kal El Ozuna made a play he said he will never forget. Two Huskies inch away from second and third base as he steps up to bat. “We were down five to zero to start the game out, and we just kept clawing our way back,” he said.

New rescue truck added to GCFD 3 fleet
QUINCY — A new rescue rig went into service at Grant County Fire District 3 July 10. Chief David Durfee said it replaces a rescue truck that was reaching the end of its service life. “It’s a rescue truck that houses all of our extrication tools for motor vehicle accidents, our specialty tech equipment, our rescue equipment. There are some added storage compartments and added lights,” he said.

Othello dentist delivers home-grown greatness
OTHELLO — It’s been said that some people are born to greatness, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them. And then there are those who do great things on a small scale. “For whatever reason, I always seem to gravitate into leadership,” said Dr. Chris Dorow, owner of Othello Dental Arts and president of the Washington State Dental Association. “When I graduated from dental school in 1995, I was the student body president for the dental school. I went immediately from there into volunteering for the Washington State Dental Association. My first committee was the Communications Committee, and then they moved me to Membership Services … I was there for 16 years, and I (was asked) to be on the board of directors an insane amount of times.”

Sixers 18U falls to Moundtime 18U on Thursday
MOSES LAKE — On Thursday, the Central Washington Sixers 18U baseball team traveled to Puyallup to play the Moundtime 18U team. They lost control of the game early and were defeated with a final score of 8-0. “Today's game didn't go so well,” Sixers head coach Jason Laugen said. “Pitching just didn't perform, and we had a hard time hitting the baseball as well. So, all around it wasn't a great effort on the day.”

Local BMX rider heading to world championships in Denmark
MOSES LAKE – Alli Kay Tatum started riding dirt bikes in 2021 when she was 12-years-old. Four years later, she is going the UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. “It was just surreal, it finally happened. I never thought it would happen, but I was just really excited,” she said.

Moses Lake rocks out at Red, White and Boom
MOSES LAKE — The weather was warm and the music was hot Thursday at Moses Lake’s Red, White and Boom celebration at McCosh Park. About 400 people came out to Moses Lake’s Independence Day celebration July 3, which included two free concerts, food vendors and a craft table set up down near the stage where children could string beads for bracelets. The Moses Lake Museum & Art Center, which hosted the table, also had glow sticks, hula hoops and dancing ribbons, long rainbow-colored strips that the youngsters could twirl as they danced.
Othello honors Independence Day with its annual celebration
OTHELLO — The Greater Othello Chamber of Commerce hosted the city’s annual Fourth of July celebration in Lions Park. The event lasted all day Friday with a parade, games, tournaments and a fireworks show. “Overall, I think it was a great event,” said Jackie Wilhelm, Othello Chamber Manager. “I think we’ve kind of worked on the things that needed to be worked on, and everything went well as far as the organization and the planning and getting people in and out of the park.” Wilhelm said her favorite part of the celebration is the flag-raising ceremony. “That's something that I’ve tried to make sure we highlight and incorporate every year,” she said.
