MOSES LAKE — Active listings are considerably up in Washington compared to a year ago, and a Washington city showed the highest growth in homeownership in the U.S. over a 12-year period, but rising prices are still making the dream of owning a home difficult to fulfill.

EPHRATA – The Ephrata Food Bank, a resource for families in the Ephrata community, is currently facing significant challenges due to dwindling supplies, but increased demand, Director Phyllis Fuglie said. Since moving to its current location in 2003, the food bank has served as a lifeline for many residents struggling with food insecurities. Prior to the current building the food bank operated out of the Ephrata Recreation Center. According to volunteers, the need for assistance has only intensified in recent months as food sources have diminished.

Mavs fall to Jackson at home

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks softball team came up short, 5-2, against the visiting Jackson Timberwolves. This comes after a dominant doubleheader win over the Eisenhower Cadets. “Jackson's a really good team with an established program, but we didn't play our sharpest and a lot of times in two good teams to get together, it's the team that makes one less mistake that comes out on top,” Mavs Head Coach Mike Hofheins said.

OTHELLO — The Othello Huskies soccer team won in overtime 2-1 in Saturday’s game against the Ephrata Tigers. “We knew from the beginning it was a battle,” said Tigers head coach Ivan Garay. “We had already played them once and tied and we knew that it was going to be back and forth.”

OTHELLO – The Othello Huskies Softball team won in both games of their doubleheader against Prosser Friday evening going 11-1 and 10-0 for the day. “I felt good knowing there was a good team behind me to back me up as the pitcher,” said the Huskies’ Alexa Prochet.

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Mavericks track and field team had great success Thursday afternoon in the dual meet against Eastmont with multiple athletes breaking personal records. “We had some kids doing events that they haven’t done before that showed not just good results, but real promise for the future,” said Mavs head coach Mark Ward.

Miller explained both drive-by shootings in Moses Lake, including the Loop Drive drive-by shooting which had one fatality and four injured and the Olympic Drive drive-by shooting which resulted in no injuries. Beston talked about the rest of the crimes the Columbia Basin Herald covered in March including high speed chases, running from officers and an alleged murder.

BMX ramping up for spring fun in Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE – Now that Spring is here, outdoor activities are ramping up, including BMX leagues. On April 4th and 5th, Moses Lake BMX will hold multiple events for children and beginners. This comes after new changes were made to the organization’s offerings. They are starting two new leagues, one for beginners, at their open house this Saturday.

Road construction ramping up for summer

MOSES LAKE — It’s still early in the spring and as a result still early in the road construction season, but there are some long-term projects already underway. Short-term projects are starting here and there around the region. Drivers heading north to Chelan who plan to take Highway 97A Monday will encounter traffic slowdowns at the Knapps Hill tunnel north of Entiat. Maintenance and inspection work will require flagger-controlled traffic.

EPHRATA — On a sunny Saturday, local high school track and field teams showcased their talent at the 49th annual Ray Cross Invitational, with performances and personal bests across the board. Ephrata, Quincy, Othello, Moses Lake Christian Academy and Royal all sent strong contingents to compete, but it was the Ephrata athletes who dominated many events.

Grant PUD places limits on electrical demand from data centers
