Almira Coulee Hartline takes ‘silver’ in state 1B baseball

EPHRATA — The Almira Coulee Hartline baseball team finished a successful season with an appearance in the state 1B final four, falling to DeSales Catholic 6-0 in the state championship game at Johnson-O’Brien Stadium Saturday. Warriors coach Hunter Lee said the day belonged to DeSales and winning pitcher Sal Sisk.

The Basin honors its heroes for Memorial Day

SOAP LAKE, EPHRATA, QUINCY – Community members gathered at Valley View Memorial Park, the Ephrata Cemetery and Quincy Valley Cemetery on Monday to honor those who have served the U.S. and preserved its way of life. “Veterans made a promise to defend our country with their life if necessary. WA clean energy project mired in ‘no man’s land’ amid planning setbacks

(The Center Square) – The Horse Heaven Clean Energy Center generating wind and solar energy south of the Tri-Cities in southeastern Washington was expected to begin construction in 2021. Three years later, the project is still in the planning phase, with Gov. Jay Inslee most recently sending the proposed site certification agreement back to the Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council for reconsideration.

MLSD to eliminate equivalent of 85 more positions

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake School District will reduce its staff for the 2024-25 school year by about 85 jobs among its classified employees. The new reductions are in addition to about 100 layoffs announced May 15. The new round of reductions affects classified (non-teaching) employees only, according to a MLSD press release. The previous reduction affected certificated (teaching) employees and administrators.

MOSES LAKE — The bass contest proved that none of the trucks at the Moses Lake Spring Festival car show had sound systems so powerful they could break windows. But anybody standing next to the orange 2005 Chevrolet Silverado felt their lungs vibrate when owner Santana Palacios turned up the volume. A lot of people were impressed.
