Hijinia Vela went to be with the Lord on Aug. 12, 2016 in Pasco, Wash. Hijinia was born Jan. 11, 1929 in Repueblo de Oriente, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Martiliano and Genoveva Campos. She was the eldest of eight children, including Hilaria, Delfina, Irma, Froilan, Eva, Juanito, and Ofelia. She was a devoted, godly wife to her late husband, Maximiliano (Nito) Vela. Hijinia is survived by her eight children Max Vela III, Delia Vela Gode, Rigo Vela, Ariel Vela, Quine Vela, Odulia Vela Anthony, Adrian Vela, and Lori Vela, along with six sons and daughters-in-law, 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom loved and adored their godly matriarch.

Given their ubiquity, one would think Americans no longer can live without the iPhones, iPads, BlackBerrys, smart phones and assorted electronic devices that collectively provide the chirps, whistles, clicks, beeps and other noises that have become the soundtrack of contemporary life. Not so. The gadgets, to be sure, are extremely useful, but they remain a convenience not a necessity in the truest sense of the word. Sensible limits on their use are wise.
