Fishin' Magician: Dave Graybill
I am going to blame the warm weather for the luke warm opening of the steelhead season here in our area. If you look at the dam counts, there are plenty of fish around, but the bite was very slow, from what I saw while fishing near Pateros. My fishing buddy Rollie Schmitten and I tried a couple of spots in the estuary of the Methow River to start with, and only heard of a couple of fish caught when speaking to other boaters and bank anglers. We then headed down to The Rocks, and may have had a hit or two but gave that up and ran to the other side of the Columbia and tried a "sure thing" drift over there. Once again we may have had hit, but left with nothing to show for our efforts. I decided to pull the boat and head for Bridgeport. We did find two anglers that had two hatchery fish at the launch. After making some long drifts at the Blow Hole and the Bridge, we jumped to the Pines, and here we each got a fish, including one hatchery keeper. Whew. It was a near thing, but we avoided a skunk.

Wave with a smile
Introducing Wave, a beautiful doggo with a pretty much permanent smile and eyes that light up like high beams on a dark Basin night. Wave is currently hanging out with his buddies at Adams County Pet Rescue at 1961 W. Bench Road in Othello, but he’d love a home with a wonderful human or group of humans to spend time with. Like all dogs at ACPR, Wave is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped to make sure he’s healthy and won’t get lost. For more information, call ACPR at 509-488-5514 or visit adamscountypetrescue.com.

Fishing Magician Report - May 25th
Walleye fishing throughout the region has really taken off in past couple of weeks, and we'll know a lot more about how the fishing is at Banks Lake. The annual Big Walleye's Tournament occurred last weekend. When I get the results we will all know how the fishing is at Banks. If the weather cooperates, I expect the tournament to be one of the best in years. I plan to make my next walleye trip to Banks, so I am very interested to see how these tournament anglers do. I am really excited about my next fishing trip, which be something very different for me. Three of us anglers are about to experience the spring fishing for channel catfish on the Columbia south of Pasco. Local guide Don Huffman has been fishing for big cats down here for years, and I am finally going to make the trip, thanks to another fishing buddy, Bill Ballentine. He set the trip up and then couldn't go. We'll miss him. According to Huffman we should hit this fishery just about right. The big females are still around and he has already boated hundreds of pounds of them this season. I'll let you know how we do.
