McGill earns offensive player of week after Rodeo Bowl win
ELLENSBURG – Wildcats quarterback Kennedy McGill was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week, according to a statement by the conference. This comes after he aided the Wildcats to a 41-14 win over Colorado Mesa in the Rodeo Bowl.

Eagles set sights on state
SOAP LAKE — The Soap Lake Eagles are preparing to come back into this season after ending last year with a 5-4 record and being two points away from making the state playoffs. “(We) had a couple of costly fumbles in a couple of different games,” said Eagles Head Coach Garrett Devine. “We were right there, but the top three from our league go to state and we ended up fourth.”
Ferguson pauses approval of major solar project in central Washington
Gov. Bob Ferguson is tapping the brakes on a controversial solar farm proposed in south-central Washington to allow more time to appraise concerns of Yakama Nation leaders. Ferguson on Friday turned down a recommendation for the Carriger Solar project from the Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council and directed the state panel to reconsider tribal officials’ desire for tougher conditions to protect cultural resources. But the first-term Democratic governor signalled his eagerness to sign off on an updated development agreement that is due from the council by Oct. 21.

Port of Quincy set for rail expansion with fed, state funding
QUINCY – Congressman Dan Newhouse, R-Washington, left, and Rep. Alex Ybarra, R-Quincy, right, visit the Port of Quincy to tour where a new rail expansion will be placed. Newhouse helped to secure around $2.5 million in federal funds for the expansion. Ybarra, working with Rep. Tom Dent, R-Moses Lake, and Sen. Curtis King, R-Yakima, managed to get an additional $2 million in funds for the project from the state. The total cost of the project will be around $16.5 million; however, the $4.5 million in funds secured will allow the port to begin the project, according to a statement from the Port of Quincy.

SEATTLE (AP) — Shea Langeliers hit a tiebreaking double with two outs in the 10th inning and the Athletics held off the Seattle Mariners 2-1 on Saturday night. The Athletics, who mustered five hits, also scored in the fourth when Darell Hernaiz drove in Jacob Wilson with a single.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers gave Seattle Seahawks rookie Jalen Milroe some hard lessons about life in the NFL. Milroe played the Seahawks’ entire preseason finale Saturday as coach Mike Macdonald rested starting quarterback Sam Darnold and Drew Lock. The third-round pick from Alabama lost three fumbles and was sacked five times in the Packers' 20-7 victory.
MLSD approves balanced $144.6M budget for 2025–26
MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake School Board unanimously approved a balanced budget for the 2025–26 school year during its regular meeting Thursday evening. The $144.6 million budget matches projected revenues with expenditures.
Washington adds 10,800 jobs in July; Grant and Adams counties show mixed trends
OLYMPIA – Washington added about 10,800 jobs in July and the monthly unemployment rate held firm at 4.5%, about the same as in June, according to data released by the Washington Employment Security Department late last week.

GEORGE – The Gorge Ampitheatre hosted its annual three-day electronic dance music festival, Bass Canyon, over the weekend. The festival security managed by both Grant County Sheriff’s Office and a private security organization had a busy weekend according to Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman.
Eagles women's soccer earns first win
CHENEY – The Eastern Washington women’s soccer team picked up their first win of the season on Sunday with a final score of 2-1 over the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, according to a statement by EWU athletics. “Two fantastic goals in the second half really put us in control,” said Eastern Head Coach Missy Strasburg. “Credit to Kam for a huge save at 2-0—that was a momentum-shifting moment. If that goes in, it's a completely different game with confidence swinging their way. That mindset, that grit in the final minutes of a tight game, says a lot.”

Grant County Fair safety measures effective, organizers say
MOSES LAKE – While there were some minor heat injuries and a few mischievous teens during the 2025 Grant County Fair as of Saturday afternoon, the event went off without any serious incidents according to fair organizers and law enforcement. In part, that’s due to added security measures taken over the past year.

Surplus multi-season deer and elk tags soon available
OLYMPIA – Deer and elk hunters who applied for a Washington multi-season application earlier this year will have a chance to purchase some of the remaining surplus tags this month. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced Tuesday that 2,693 multi-season deer tags and 160 multi-season elk tags will be available for sale in August, with sales occurring on separate days to streamline the process.
First day of the Moses Lake Demo Derby
MOSES LAKE – The first night of Miner Services’ Demolition Derby kicked off Tuesday with a variety of racing and knockout events, concluding with a last man standing demo derby with Seth Dompier coming out on top. “It’s just a great time,” said Dompier. “It’s a lot of fun coming out here with your friends and a lot of good people (and being) in front of the fans and just having a great time wrecking some cars.”
