The S&P 500 was up 0.5% in the early going on Monday, and the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite was up about twice as much. Markets in Europe and Asia were also higher following encouraging reports on manufacturing in both regions. British bank HSBC sank after reporting a huge drop in profits that was even worse than analysts expected, and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings fell after an outbreak of coronavirus on one of its ships infected at least 5 passengers and 36 crew members.
