Valkyrie wants to call your home Valhalla

MOSES LAKE – Valkyrie prefers the quiet company of her human, and isn’t a big fan of other animals. However, she does love the great outdoors and is very fond of winter, often seen frolicking in the snow when the opportunity arises. Like most other pups, a treat brightens her day and makes her a loving, happy and content companion. Valkyrie is hanging out with her caretakers at Grant County Animal Outreach but would love to come home with the right person or family. Like all of the animals at GCAO, she is spayed/neutered and up to date on her shots. Find out more about her and the other animals at grantcountyanimaloutreach.org. If you are unable to adopt but want to support the shelter, click the “donate” button at the top of the page.

LETTER: A statement from MLSD board president Kirryn Jensen

I want to take a minute to talk directly with you about something I know is on a lot of people’s minds –our district’s finances and the calls for a forensic audit. I’ve heard your concerns loud and clear, whether it’s been through conversations, at meetings, or even on social media. I get it. This has been a tough situation, and people want answers. Right now, we’re in the middle of a deep dive with the state’s comprehensive audit. This isn’t just a quick once-over; it’s a full-scale review to figure out what went wrong, how we got here, and what needs to change. I think it’s important to let that process play out before making any big decisions, like committing to a forensic audit. But let me be clear: I’m not ruling it out. If the state audit shows it’s needed, I will absolutely consider it and take it to the rest of the board for discussion.

(The Center Square) – Gov. Bob Ferguson on Tuesday signed into law a controversial bill requiring Washingtonians to apply for a permit – and pay for it – before purchasing a firearm. Under House Bill 1163, which goes into effect in May 2027, any state resident wishing to purchase a gun must first apply for a permit, then pay a fee, and show documentation of completing a safety training program – including live-fire shooting – within five years. Per the bill, potential gun buyers will have to obtain a five-year permit through the Washington State Patrol. At the point of purchase, buyers will undergo another background check and wait 10 days before taking possession of the firearm.
