Tigers maintain success on the court

EPHRATA – The Ephrata Tigers (7-0) boys tennis team took care of business on the road against the Ellensburg Bulldogs (4-4), winning 4-1 and keeping their undefeated season alive. With dominant performances from Josh Mullin’s singles win and a doubles victory from Charles Flynn and Jacob Wolther, this team was a unified front.

District closes elementary campus for ‘25-26 school year due to safety concerns

MOSES LAKE – Moses Lake School District officials announced during a Friday press conference that Groff Elementary will remain closed for the 2025-26 school year due to the ongoing infrastructure issues tied to the original construction of the building. The district is also pursuing legal action against Fowler General Construction Inc., the contractor that built Groff, for breach of contract and breach of warranty.

Rick E. Mitchell, 75, passed away early in the morning on April 7th with his wife, Marlene and daughter, Tami by his side. Rick was born in Ritzville, Washington in 1949 to W.E. (Mitch) and Lilias Mitchell. Rick then grew up with his younger sister and brother, Candise and Terry in Moses Lake, Washington. Rick enjoyed little league baseball, fishing and spending time traveling to Arkansas and California with his family.

Did it come from across the country, or across town? “There are a lot of small (meat) producers in Washington that produce a quality product, but don't have a place to take it to be processed,” said Andy Huff, plant manager at Pure Country Harvest in Moses Lake. “That's what we're here to do, is not only provide high quality protein for the local community, but also to provide a service for the small producers, so that they can get their products out.”

EPHRATA – The Ephrata City Council is reviewing options for a logo for the city which could be used for marketing and other purposes and discussed how to move forward during their April 3 meeting. “A logo is a graphic symbol or emblem that visually represents a company, organization or entity,” said City Clerk Kaitlin Kapalo. “It distinguishes us from others and gives us something to recognize (us for). Logos matter because it’s our first impression as a city.”

Over the last several years, our country has gotten into an all-or-none mentality that seems a bit odd to me. Maybe it’s because of my job, but it seems weird that we look at our political leaders and decide that they’re either always right or always wrong. I don’t mean this simply toward Donald Trump, though he’s in the mix, but rather toward the high-end political leaders that regularly make national headlines. EPHRATA – The Ephrata Food Bank, a resource for families in the Ephrata community, is currently facing significant challenges due to dwindling supplies, but increased demand, Director Phyllis Fuglie said. Since moving to its current location in 2003, the food bank has served as a lifeline for many residents struggling with food insecurities. Prior to the current building the food bank operated out of the Ephrata Recreation Center. According to volunteers, the need for assistance has only intensified in recent months as food sources have diminished.
