State patrol emphasis in Adams, Grant counties over Thanksgiving holiday

OTHELLO — Traffic emphasis patrols will begin Nov. 20 in Adams, Grant and Kittitas counties as Washington State University students and other drivers travel to Western Washington for the Thanksgiving holidays. The emphasis patrols will be in effect through Nov. 30. “District 6 troopers in Moses Lake and Ellensburg will be patrolling (in those counties) focusing on speeding and driving too fast for conditions, distracted (or) impaired driving and other collision-causing violations,” the Washington State Patrol wrote in a memo. Road construction on hold through July 4 weekend

VANTAGE — People wanting to take to the open road for the July 4 weekend will find it pretty open, with most construction projects on hold until next week. The exception is the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 over the Snoqualmie summit. “We have a project on eastbound I-90 between North Bend and the summit, which is reduced from three lanes to two lanes,” wrote Summer Derrey, Washington Department of Transportation assistant communications manager for the south central region, in response to a question from the Columbia Basin Herald.

More rain for Cascades, high winds for Columbia Basin this week

LEAVENWORTH — A second strong winter storm is projected to hit Washington this week, bringing heavy rains back to areas that were hard-hit by rain and flooding last week. Steve Bodnar, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Spokane, said rain is forecast to start Monday, but won’t last as long.
