Moses Lake SGL plant waiting for buyer

MOSES LAKE — The SGL plant in Moses Lake is for sale, and proposals to buy it are due this week. Basin Ag Sales is handling the sale of the property in conjunction with Kidder Mathews, a real estate firm that specializes in industrial properties. SGL Carbon Fibers, based in Wiesbaden, Germany, built its plant in Moses Lake in 2010, to manufacture large-tow carbon fiber for BMW vehicle bodies. By 2015, it employed about 200 people and had doubled the plant’s production, according to the company’s website. But by 2020, SGL had begun laying off personnel, citing decreased demand for its product, according to Columbia Basin Herald archives, and operations ceased at the Moses Lake plant in the summer of 2025, according to SGL’s website.
