Maggie Waltho, mayor of Soap Lake from 1946 to 1950, is one of the local women showcased along with the “Ahead of the Curve” at Moses Lake Museum & Art Center. She refused to go armed after she fired the town marshal and took over his job, saying “Irish don’t carry guns. If necessary, I’ll use a shillelagh.”
