Retiring Parks Superintendent Rolando Gonzales reacts with surprise upon seeing Ashley Dieringer, now age 19, the inspiration for the all-inclusive Ashley’s Playground in McCosh Park. Gonzales was honored during an open house retirement event Thursday at the Parks and Recreation Department. Gonzales worked on the playground project in 2005 with the help of Ashley’s mother Christi Dieringer.

MOSES LAKE — In 1977, Rolando Gonzales applied for a part-time position with the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department. He was just 19 years old when he was hired by then-parks supervisor Wayne Hawkins.
