Fresh News From MarDon: Mid-February birdwatching
Mid-February brings optimism to all fishermen and women for an early spring for the first time in many years. One sighting that really surprised me was seeing nine white pelicans flying 30 yards high over Blythe Point Boat Launch. These large birds looked some-what lost as they approached Potholes Reservoir and ice was encroaching the southern shoreline. Canadian Geese are pairing up to execute their nesting process. The Columbia National Wildlife Refuge offers some excellent early bird viewing options. (All available for your enjoyment with the purchase of a Discover Pass). The viewing platform overlooking Royal Lake shows a panoramic view of many waterfowl birds and beautiful basalt columns. Also, the pull off by Soda Lake overlooking Marsh Units 1 and 2 have amazing views and some great photo opportunities this time of year.
