North Elder Street closed next week for utility extensions

MOSES LAKE — Streets around the construction site of a new business in Moses Lake will be closed to through traffic next week to allow for the installation of water and sewer lines. 

The roadwork begins Oct. 5 and will be restricted to daytime hours. The road will be open after working hours.  

North Elder Street will be closed between East Third and East Fifth avenues; East Fourth Avenue will be closed between Elder and North Fig Street. People will continue to have access to all businesses along North Elder.  

"They're literally working right at the intersection of Elder and Fourth," said Jason Grubb, the city's construction management program manager.  

Grubb said crews will be working five business days, but because of the company's schedule, construction may continue through Monday, Oct. 12. If it does, the streets will be open to all traffic over the weekend when the site is shut down.  

"They were instructed to have streets open when they're not working," Grubb said. 

Crews will be extending utility lines along North Elder in connection with construction at the site of the new Numerica Credit Union branch. It's projected to be completed in late November or early December. 

Work on the Hansen Road overpass has reached the stage of rebuilding the bridge supports. 

"We are currently drilling and pouring the center support shafts, which will be followed closely by the center column pours," said Summer Derrey, communications manager for the Washington Department of Transportation North Central region. "We are also working on forming and pouring the abutment walls on the north and south sides of the highway." 

Derrey said it's still too early to determine a finishing date, but the target date is January 2026.
