The Moses Lake Public Library is participating in one of its favorite celebrations of the year: Library Card Sign-up Month! During September, visit your local library and discover our many amazing resources, including books, audiobooks, magazines, DVDs, music CDs, eBooks, eAudiobooks, Mango Languages, LinkedIn Learning, and more! Celebrate with us this September and show off your library card and all the free resources available to you. 

We are proud to welcome new staff members to the library! Mica recently joined us on Aug. 11 in one of our page positions. This back-of-house position is responsible for checking in and shelving materials, the single most important position that allows all our other daily operations to run smoothly. Jonathan joined us on Sept. 8 as one of our library specialists. This customer service-oriented role involves interacting with patrons at the front desk and supporting programming and outreach opportunities. Please join us in welcoming Mica and Jonathan! 

After a well-deserved summer break, the Friends of the Moses Lake Library have resumed their monthly meeting on the third Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the library break room. If you are interested in joining our Friends and supporting their fundraising efforts to support library programming, please consider joining them for their upcoming meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. The Friends will also host another Friends of the Library Book Sale on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 2 to 6 p.m. Find a gently used book or DVD and take home a new treasure for your home library.  

NCW Libraries’ staff and the Moses Lake Public Library Foundation will present information to the Moses Lake City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 22, about how residents use the library, its programs, and its services. We look forward to sharing information about the library with local leaders and our most important community partner, the City of Moses Lake, which owns the building at 418 E 5th Ave. 

The Moses Lake Public Library regularly offers programming for kids, teens, and adults each week. Learn about a few of our planned programs and ideas. 

Do you have a favorite animal? Austin, our Supervising Librarian, does! He loves sloths and is proud to bring an upcoming Sloth Suncatcher program for kids and tweens to celebrate International Sloth Day on Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 4 to 5 p.m. Save the date and create a fun DIY sloth suncatcher for your home! 

Get ready to join us for a Halloween alternative on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with candy, games, and more! In partnership with the Moses Lake Community Coalition and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Columbia Basin, we are proud to bring back a patron favorite with our second annual Not-So-Scary Halloween program! Join us after the Downtown Moses Lake Association’s Harvest Festival and after the Grant County Fairgrounds’ Moravida Festival for more fun with sensory sensitivities in mind. 

Bare Our Shelves will appear bi-weekly and features honest musings from your local library staff. Austin Foglesong is the Supervising Librarian II of the Moses Lake Public Library, a branch of NCW Libraries. He has a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Washington. Connie Baulne is the Operations Supervisor of the Moses Lake Public Library. She specializes in controlled chaos and creating a good schedule.
