Ephrata takes first step for preparation plan to mitigate downtown flooding
The City of Ephrata has started what is anticipated to be a 10-to-15-year process to remove the downtown corridor from a flood zone. The first phase is getting a Strategic Infrastructure Program grant to develop a FEMA-approved Flood Hazard Mitigation Plan. Phase two is working on the Letter of Map Amendment, which would remove a majority of the area marked by the X. Phase three is removing the rest of the OA flood zone by completing the 1972 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood plan diversion design.
