Moses Lake Classic Car Club donates to Moravida Festival trunk or treat
MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake Classic Car Club members came up with a novel way to raise a little money for a good cause.
"At our last club meeting we painted pumpkins and then auctioned them off," said club president Mason Utter.
"That was fun. It was funner than I thought it would be," said Jerry Fisher, club treasurer.
The money was donated to the organizers of a Trunk or Treat scheduled for the Moravida Festival at the Grant County Fairgrounds on Halloween. Paul Brumly, who's part of the Moravida organizing committee, said it's greatly appreciated.
The club raised about $150 to buy candy for the Trunk or Treat, scheduled for 3 to 6 p.m. That will be only one of many activities during the festival, which will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
"We have events all day long," Brumly said.
Among them is a car show, which starts at noon. Utter said car club members will be among the proud owners showing off their rides.
The club has all new officers, and all new board and lots of new members, as the longtime board members decided it was time to step down. There are new members, new ideas, and new cars.
"They like different cars," Utter said.
Jacklyn Custer, club secretary, is a relatively new member, whose 1984 Mercedes started as a project of her late husband. He never had time to get very far, she said, and after his death she decided to get it running, and did.
Utter said club members are working to attract new members, with the pumpkins being one example.
"That's the kind of stuff we do at club meetings," he said.
