Built on trust
MOSES LAKE — From emergency repairs to full home repiping, All American Plumbing Services LLC has quietly built a reputation across the Columbia Basin for doing things one way: the right way, owner Steve McUne said.
McUne, who is approaching nine years in business this September, says that commitment to quality and honesty has been at the core of his work since day one.
“I will only do quality work. I will not do sloppy work,” McUne said. “It doesn’t matter what you do – show pride in your work. I’m proud of the work that I do.”
Serving communities from Desert Aire to Ritzville and Washtucna to Nespelem, All American Plumbing specializes in service work, remodels, repiping and preventative maintenance. While McUne is capable of tackling new construction projects, he admits his passion lies elsewhere.
“I prefer service plumbing,” he said. “Every job is different. I can do 10 water heaters in a row, and not one of them will be the same.”
That variety, and the people he meets along the way, are part of what keeps him going.
“I’ve met some incredible people,” McUne said. “Actually, I’ve made a few very close friends just from doing jobs for customers.”
A family-owned and locally rooted business, All American Plumbing reflects McUne’s connection to the community. Having lived in the area since 1991, he takes pride not just in his work, but in being able to help neighbors when they need it most.
“I love being able to help,” he said. “My job’s never the same, and I get to meet amazing people and learn something new every day.”
That approach extends to how he treats customers – especially those facing difficult situations.
“I try to be fair,” McUne said. “You walk into a house, and you can tell sometimes, if someone’s struggling, I can help with that. But at the end of the day, I’m honest, and I do the job right.”
Honesty, he says, is the foundation of trust, something he believes customers value just as much as quality workmanship.
“Be honest. Be fair,” McUne said. “They may not want to hear it, but I’ve been doing this a long time. I’ve got a pretty good idea what I’m doing.”
That straightforward approach has paid off. Much of All American Plumbing’s business comes from repeat customers and word-of-mouth referrals, sometimes several layers deep, he said.
“I’m getting fifth- and sixth-tier referrals from people,” he said. “That tells me we’re doing something right.”
And for McUne, doing the job right means doing it once.
“If you do a good job, maybe five people will hear about it,” he said. “Do a bad job, and 75 people will hear about it. It doesn’t make sense to do shoddy work.”
Beyond repairs and installations, McUne is also passionate about helping homeowners avoid problems in the first place. He encourages residents to pay attention to small maintenance habits that can make a big difference.
“Don’t put grease down the drain. Garbage disposals are not food processors,” he said. “And know where your water shut-off is – if something goes wrong, that can save you a lot of trouble.”
As his business continues to grow, McUne hasn’t lost sight of the people who made it possible.
“I wouldn’t be where I am without every single customer,” he said. “Thank you to those who trust me to come into their homes and refer me to others.”
