‘Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility’
Grant County Fire District 7 Chief Erick Brittain manages a structure fire Saturday in Soap Lake. He said this incident, along with a Tuesday morning brush fire, reflects how conditions are in Grant County. Brittain said residents should prepare for the upcoming fire season and practice prevention.

Department of Natural Resources Eastern Communications Manager Ryan Rodruck said it’s still too early to predict the severity of the fire season. However, with factors including the state-wide drought declaration, he urges residents to exercise caution.
“We could have hundreds more firefighters and hundreds more pieces of equipment, but nothing is going to change, unless people clean up their properties and understand how dangerous wildfires are, that’s where the difference is going to be made.”
