IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Washington women’s tennis team bounced back after its first loss of the season with a sweeping 4-0 victory over Iowa on Sunday morning. The Huskies improve to 13-1 on the season with a 4-1 mark in the Big Ten.

The Huskies opened the day by securing the doubles point after Reece Carter and Jermine Sherif took a 6-3 victory on court three against Eline Bex and Nikita Vishwase.

Alexia Jacobs and Marie Weissheim from UW continued their doubles winning streak with a 6-1 victory over Iowa’s Tereza Dejnozkova and Sally Xu on court two. The Huskies duo is 9-0 during the dual season.

On court one, the doubles match between Washington’s Erika Matsuda and Carina Syrtveit and Iowa’s Daianne Hayashida and Mia Mack went unfinished, with UW clinching the point.

Karolina Kozakova was set to make her Purple and Gold debut in the No. 6 singles spot, but her match was decided by an Iowa injury default.

The first three singles matches with Erika Matsuda, Reece Carter and Alexia Jacobs did not finish, but all three Huskies were given the point. The remaining singles matches with Sherif against Sally Xu and Weissheim against Eline Bex also ended in favor of the Huskies, with Sherif winning 6-2,6-2 and Weissheim winning 6-0, 6-4.

Following Sunday’s singles matches, Weissheim earned her 12th singles win of the spring to move her into a tie with Carter for the team lead. Sherif became the third Husky with a double-digit win total with a record of 11-1.

The Huskies return home to face Northwestern on Friday at 4 p.m. and Illinois on Sunday at noon.
