GCHD hosting MMR vaccine clinic today

MOSES LAKE — The Grant County Health District is hosting a no-cost measles, mumps and rubella, or MMR, vaccine drive-thru clinic Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. in partnership with Care-A-Van in the GCHD parking lot. This was created in response to the confirmation of measles within Grant County. 

“The health district staff worked to put this together quickly once we found out there was confirmation of measles in Grant County,” said Lexi Smith, Communication Coordinator at GCHD. “This clinic helps eliminate some barriers for people who want to get their family up to date on the MMR vaccine.” 

The clinic is available for people 12 months and older and those interested can register in advance or walk in. Insurance is not required, but for those who are insured, GCHD asks that an insurance card be brought along. 

The elimination of barriers from having a vaccine clinic helps more citizens get vaccinated, as they don’t need to have established care at a health facility or an appointment; they can just show up and get vaccinated. Smith said this also ensures the availability of the vaccine for the general public. 

“The MMR vaccine is the best thing you can do to protect you and your family from measles,” said Smith. “Two doses of the vaccine are about 97% effective in preventing measles.” 

GCHD announced in a press release that they have also launched a measles dashboard that will be updated every Monday and Friday through April 2 as long as no additional infections are identified. The dashboard includes confirmed cases, pending tests, identified exposures, total hospitalizations and total deaths along with information on where to get the MMR vaccine in Grant County.
