WDFW is accepting bids for a farm lease on Columbia Basin Wildlife Area EPHRATA- The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is currently accepting sealed bids on a five-year agricultural lease for two irrigated Farm Units in Block 26 near Mattawa. Farm Unit 55 is 125 acres and Farm Unit 80 is 112 acres and must be taken as a package. The intent of the Block 26 Ag lease is to provide forage for overwintering waterfowl, waterfowl hunting opportunity, and provide revenue for the management of the Columbia Basin Wildlife Area. To meet these intents each bidder must submit a farm plan that details their proposed cropping rotation with their sealed bid. Only bids with an approved farm plan will be accepted as qualified. One year out of the five-year rotation potatoes or onions can be grown, but requires a follow-up cover crop of winter wheat planted no later than Oct. 15 to ensure it is irrigated before water deliveries are done for the year. The other four years require a grain crop with crop residue left in the field. Grain corn or other grain crops will be allowed as part of the approved farm plan process. The approved farm plan approach allows more flexibility while still meeting the intent of the lease. Approved farm plans could include buckwheat or other cereal grain crops that have grain and stubble residue left in the field for waterfowl. Sealed bids will be accepted until 4:00 pm, March 30. At that time, they will be opened and recorded. Bids will be reviewed and awarded the week of April 3. WDFW reserves the right to reject all bids. Earnest money will then be returned to all unsuccessful bidders. Additional questions and/or to request a bid packet please contact Chad Eidson, Columbia Basin Wildlife Area manager. Approval by the WDFW Director will be required before the lease is final. #03077/47402 Pub: March 24, 2026
