Coolidge Rd. extension to improve access to Moses Lake Community Health

MOSES LAKE — Construction is scheduled to be completed in late April on a project to extend South Coolidge Street to connect it with East Wheeler Road. The goal, said Moses Lake Community Health Center Sheila Berschauer, is to improve access MLCHC. 

“This project has been part of our long-term vision,” Berschauer said in a press release announcing the project. “Once completed, this route will help reduce traffic through residential areas while providing a much more convenient way for patients to reach our campus.” 

No cost estimate was available at press time. 

A section of East Terrace Avenue is closed to through traffic during construction, the press release said.  

The properties where the extension is being built were purchased by MLCHC over six years, the press release said. The three houses on the properties were demolished last November with road construction beginning in February. 

The road revisions are the latest in about seven years of projects to enlarge and remodel the clinic to provide more services and make it easier for patients to use. Community Health Centers was remodeled in 2019 to add about 18,000 square feet, increasing the size of the medical clinic and rebuilding the dental clinic. The clinic’s same-day appointments department, its version of a walk-in clinic, was also enlarged.  

The rest of the clinic was remodeled; departments moved to new places with the goal of making it easier for patients to access services. That work was completed in 2024 and 2025.  

The remodeling projects included adding parking lots, mainly for staff, on the opposite side of Coolidge Street. 

“This project is ultimately about making health care more accessible for the community we serve,” Berschauer said. 

    Construction is ongoing on a project to connect Coolidge Street to East Wheeler Road and hopefully improve access to Moses Lake Community Health Centers.
