MATTAWA — Grant County Fire District 8 was dispatched to a structure fire Monday night near Road U Southwest and Road 24.7 Southwest, according to business manager Barabara Davis.

“There was a vacant house that burned into two shop type buildings,” Davis said.

While the fire was burning, a level two evacuation (Get Set!) was announced by Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire was contained at around 8:30 p.m., according to GCSO, and the evacuation warning was removed.

Davis said she doesn’t know the total acreage burned. However, radio traffic reported around two to three acres Monday night. She said the Grant County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.

There were no injuries to either fire crews or the public while managing the fire, Davis said.

GCFD 8 received mutual aid from Grant County Fire District 3, Grant County Fire District 5 and Royal Slope Fire and EMS.
