Carla Marie Grieb – Bishop – Hamilton
Our hearts ache that we must share the passing of our Mama, Nana, Sister, Auntie Carla and B.C. on May 31 at the age of 79. She went to be with Jesus surrounded by family with love and deep thankfulness for her life.
Carla was born in Longview, Washington, the first child of six, the daughter of George Lester and Lois Evelyn Grieb. She spent her early childhood living in the Columbia River Gorge, Longview, Lyle, Wishram and Goldendale, Washington as her father worked for the SP&S railroad and the family moved many times.
Carla was a loving, caring, passionate and deeply faithful woman who dedicated her life to the Lord, family, friends, church and community. She served in her church for many years in several ministry roles and found great joy in seeing people follow after the Lord despite facing her own heartaches and challenges along the way.
Carla embraced both the simple and the extraordinary moments that made life rich. She loved frequenting quilt shops to find just the right fabric for her next quilt with an exceptional eye for color and design. She was well known for making beautiful, personalized quilts for family and friends that will be cherished forever.
Carla adored her family above all and lived her life in sacrificial ways to care for and serve. She encouraged and prayed for them, always pointing to the love of Jesus and offering wise counsel with a loving heart. Being surrounded by her brothers and sisters, her children, grandchildren and dear friends filled her heart with joy. She created beautiful memories that will be with them always. No matter the hardship or heartache she would tell you, “Choose happy and love big!”
She was preceded in death by her husbands John Roger Bishop and Roland Raymond “Skipper” Hamilton; her second son Gordon Alvah George Bishop; her grandparents Nanie and Paul Nolan and Arthur Grieb; her parents George and Lois Grieb; and two of her younger brothers Craig and Jason Grieb.
She is survived by her son Kenneth James Bishop; her daughters Evelyn Jeanne-Marie Milne (Dennis) and Karina Julie Peters (Clint); her siblings Thomas Grieb (Kathleen), Lisa Doerr (Steve) and Julie Carvo (Charles); her best quilting friend “Aunt Mary” Lang (Jim) and many other dear friends.
She is also survived by eight precious grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
The celebration of Carla’s beautiful life will be held on Aug. 8, 2026, at Grace Harvest Church in Moses Lake, Washington. The time will be announced at a later date.
