Fire sparks near Soap Lake Thursday
SOAP LAKE — At around 2:30 p.m. Thursday a fire broke out between Road B.5 NE and State Highway 28, in rural Soap Lake.
Grant County Fire District 7 was the responding agency to the fire. They called in mutual aid support from Grant County Fire District 5, Grant County Fire District 12, Grant County Fire District 13, Ephrata Fire Department and Coulee City Fire and EMS.
“This area has had wildfires before due to different causes, thankfully Grant County has great firefighters and the community should be grateful,” Grant County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman said.
Soap Lake Police Department officers blocked access to Road B.5 from residents.
State Highway 28 was also temporarily closed when the fire was moving north.
At around 4 p.m. the departments were still working putting the blaze out.
This is a developing story. The Columbia Basin Herald will have an update as more information becomes available.
