Warden’s Clausen selected for LEAP Committee

RENTON — The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced the WIAA Leadership through Education Activities and Personal Development Committee Class of 2028 Monday morning. Among those selected was Warden High School’s Soren Clausen.

Clausen was one of the eight incoming juniors selected for the LEAP Committee, according to the announcement. LEAP is comprised of eight juniors and eight seniors representing the WIAA’s member schools, according to the press release, and serves as a voice for the Association’s over 225,000 student participants.

The incoming juniors will serve a two-year term, according to the announcement, joining the eight seniors who recently completed their first term during the 2025-26 school year.

Senior LEAP Committee members returning to serve their second term are: Bela Adaszewski from Cheney, Sophia Chun from Central Kitsap, Ava Edgar from Shadle Park, Mabel Egan from Hazen, Mia Huynh from Chief Sealth, Derin Muhittinoglu from Bothell, Michael Priest from Ocosta and Owen Yee from Fife.

All applicants completed an extensive application process which included an online application, short essays and a video personal statement about why they should be selected.

The LEAP committee will meet five times throughout the school year to discuss and provide feedback on WIAA-related topics and initiatives, according to the announcement. The group will also have the opportunity to be involved with WIAA State Tournaments and participate in WIAA Executive Board meetings.
