MOSES LAKE — A 15-year-old boy was booked on suspicion of first-degree assault Monday night in connection with an assault Sunday. The boy was captured with the help of Rex, the Moses Lake Police Department K-9, according to a MLPD press release.

The alleged assault occurred late Sunday afternoon on Russell Avenue.

“In that case, the 15-year-old suspect allegedly pointed a gun at the victim at close range before firing a few shots as he ran away,” the MLPD release said.

Moses Lake officers located the suspect at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, but the suspect jumped a fence and tried to get away, it said. Among the officers searching for him was MLPD Officer Brad Zook and K-9 Rex.

They sighted the suspect who ran through traffic across West Broadway Avenue. Rex caught and held the suspect until his handler arrived, the MLPD release said.

In addition to the assault charge, the juvenile was booked for felony violation of a protection order and unlawful possession of a firearm.
