Janet (Briggs Riley) Stone
Jan Stone was a loving wife, mom, stepmom, grandmother and great-grandmother who held her faith close to her heart.
Born on March 13, 1949, in Ephrata, Wash., Janet Marie (Briggs Riley) Stone was raised in Moses Lake. She was the only daughter of Albert and Marian Briggs and the sister of Curt Briggs.
Jan graduated as co-valedictorian from Moses Lake High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Seattle Pacific College (now University) before marrying Anthony (Tony) Riley in 1973 and having two children, Tami and Tony. Jan was divorced in 1981 and then raised her children by herself, living for 27 years in Edmonds, Wash. Trained as a medical technologist, she filled many different positions in the Laboratory at Swedish Hospital.
In 1998, she married Ken Stone and moved to Florida, where she earned her MBA from the University of South Florida, which she applied more in her personal life than in business. They then moved to Central California before returning to the greater Seattle area near Mill Creek, her home for the past 22 years.
At age 55, Jan got her first U.S. passport and over the next 21 years, she traveled with her husband to over 44 countries on every continent except Australia and Antarctica.
Jan was an active Christian throughout her life, had a strong faith in Jesus Christ as her savior, and she found many opportunities to serve others. Jan became a stay-at-home-grandma, helping raise three grandsons who lived nearby, rather than going back to work. On Dec. 22, 2025, after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer, Jan went to be at rest with the Lord.
Jan is survived by her husband, Ken Stone, her two children, Tami Tregoning and Tony Riley, two stepchildren, David (Kristen) Stone and Daniel (Rebecca) Stone, her brother, Curt (Debi) Briggs, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service for Jan Stone will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Alderwood Community Church in Lynnwood, Wash.
