LETTER: Something wonderful
Hey, Moses Lake, something wonderful is about to happen.
Our new hospital is about to open a new era in caring for our community. I had an opportunity to visit the facility, and it is impressive. As expected, when Moses Lake community plans on doing something, it does it well. This success is more than bricks and mortar — it reflects our shared values. We have demonstrated that when faced with a challenge, Moses Lake comes together to build solutions that benefit all. The new hospital will stand as a symbol of progress, compassion and resilience that will serve the community for another 75 years.
I have been tracking progress of this project and to date we are on schedule and under budget. Let’s face it; government projects don’t always end well. All the people involved in the project need to be thanked for a job well done.
I am not surprised by the results because that is who we are in the Moses Lake community. Example: The hospital was started in 1947 by popular vote; the first hospital was built in World War II army barracks where our library is now, and in the mid-’50s they built the present hospital that has served us well for the past 70 years.
In the past, our community has met challenges by coming together, planning and overcoming. The closing of Larson Air Force Base (Port of Grant County and Pronto Pacific) and the Mount St. Helens eruption are examples.
I extend my gratitude to the hospital leadership, the district board, and most importantly, the citizens whose votes made this possible. Together, we are shaping a healthier, stronger future for Moses Lake.
On Feb. 28, 10 a.m.-noon, there is a community open house, and I encourage all to visit out new hospital. You can learn more at WeAreSamaritan.org.
P.S. We have another problem we need a 70-year solution for: our city water system, which is not living up to Moses Lake, being a Desert Oasis.
