Ephrata man killed in SR 283 collision

GEORGE — An Ephrata man was killed, and a Quincy man was charged with vehicular homicide following a two-car collision about seven miles northeast of George Sunday afternoon. 

Alejandro Cartagena Hernandez, 53, was driving north on State Route 283 at the White Trail Road at about 5:45 p.m. when his pickup was hit by a pickup driven by Gerardo Silva Diaz, 39, according to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol. Silva Diaz crossed the centerline and hit Cartagena Hernandez, the WSP memo said.  

Intoxicating substances were involved, the memo said. The highway was closed for about four hours.  

Cartegena Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Silva Diaz was injured and was transported to Quincy Valley Medical Center.
