Douglass sticks to local roots

MOSES LAKE — Real Estate Broker Brandon Douglass with Windermere Realty has been a longtime partner in the community. Douglass said it is his goal to serve the community in whatever ways possible and he is working to do that by helping homebuyers. 

“(I enjoy) being able to meet more people, meeting people who trust me with one of the biggest transactions of their lives and then having the freedom and flexibility to give back to my community and volunteering in different aspects,” he said. 

Douglass said he was born and raised in Moses Lake and has always grown up around the real estate industry, with his grandparents both being involved in owning rental properties, but he came into the real estate business himself through his endeavors with the Sand Scorpions ORV group. Windermere was one of the many sponsors of the group, and through that contact, they offered to pay for Douglass to get his realty license and a guaranteed spot at the office. 

When he first started to get his license, Douglass was working long hours in Quincy, but he said that during COVID, he was laid off from his job, which allowed him to focus on studying and finally attaining his license in 2021. This year will mark his fifth year as a Real Estate Broker with Windermere. 

“Before I had my license, I bought my personal home and my first rental property without a realtor and that gave me a pretty good taste of the system, and once I got into it, this was all pretty familiar,” said Douglass. 

Attaining his license and getting through the struggles faced in those years to get to where he is now would not have been possible without the help of the community. As a real estate pro, he said it is his desire to use what he learned to give back to that very community that has stuck by him. 

As a real estate professional, Douglass said he spends most of his time examining local data about the market. While he does keep track of events on the national level, more often he has seen that the local area is not as affected by national influence as other levels. 

“Interest rates, that’s something at a national level that affects everyone, but some areas of our country might be going through a recession or downturn, while Moses Lake and Grant County remain relatively stable just due to the wide variety of industries that we serve,” he said.  

Guiding his clients through the data and local economic climates is something Douglass said is very important to him as a real estate agent, as he aims to be honest and transparent when selling people a home.  

In this effort, he said it is essential to keep himself educated on whatever the market is looking like to ensure that his clients are fully aware of everything that is happening in the housing market in a way that is easy to understand for those who might not be familiar. 

“It’s listening to your clients and trying your best to fit their needs while still giving them realistic expectations,” said Douglass. 

The flexible hours provided by working in real estate have allowed Douglass to further extend the ways that he can help the community. In this effort, he has become the president of the Sand Scorpions, sits on the board of the Moses Lake Rotary Club and will volunteer at a variety of events around town wherever help is needed. 

“I love to volunteer, I don’t know why, but I just like to help and make a difference,” he said. 

Douglass said all that he has accomplished wouldn’t be possible without the constant support of his wife, Tori, and his daughter, Harley.
