Soap Lake to establish a tourism committee
SOAP LAKE — The Soap Lake City Council unanimously approved the creation of a Tourism Development Committee to handle city tourism funds at Wednesday's council meeting.
Mayor Peter Sharp will recommend three to five candidates for council approval to serve on the committee. The committee structure will allow people who live outside city limits to serve, Sharp said, expanding the pool of candidates.
“If we just get a motion to approve the start of the Tourism Development Committee. I'll send it all over to the city attorney and she will draft it up for our city ordinance, and I'll bring it back to you for review during the next council meeting, so you have the ability to look it over,” Sharp said during the meeting.
The committee’s meetings will be open to the public and minutes will be recorded, Sharp said. Its decisions will be submitted to the council for approval.
Those interested in serving on the board can drop off a letter of interest at Soap Lake City Hall, 239 Second Ave. SE.
