Artrageous to raise the energy level March 6

MOSES LAKE — There are many words that could describe Artrageous, the show Columbia Basin Allied Arts will present March 6. “Sedate,” “calm” and “slow-paced” are not among those words. 

“It's kind of that old vaudeville kind of variety show that's super family-friendly,” said CBAA Executive Director Shawn Cardwell “Kids and families are invited up onto the stage. It's one of those perfect theater shows where people aren't expected to be quiet; they're expected to enjoy it out loud.” 

Music, dance and yes, live painting all come together in a visual 3-D concert, according to Artrageous’ website.  

“The show (appears to be) built around their speed painter,” said Cardwell, adding that she hadn’t seen the whole show yet. “There are amazing high-velocity visuals happening while live music is being played on weird and wacky instruments. There’s danging, there’s comedy. It truly is spectacular.” 

Artrageous formed as street performers in Kitsilano, British Columbia in the 1980s, according to their website. They’ve performed all over the world, sharing the stage with acts as varied as the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, the Pink Flamingos, Luke Perry and KC and the Sunshine Band. 

The show at the Wallenstien is part of CBAA’s Premier Series. The show will include a 10-minute intermission, during which h time patrons can enjoy concessions from local producers, including Moore Brewing, RM Wineries, Cow Path Bakery, Rowley Farms and Starving Farmer Popcorn.  

“It's fun, it's interactive, it's high energy, it's super unique and it's really going to be something to see,” Cardwell said.
