BBCC prepares for annual talent show

MOSES LAKE — Big Bend Community College is hosting its annual talent show, “Vikings Got Talent,” on Feb. 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wallenstein Theater. This show will be free to enter and open to all community members who wish to see performances from local college students. 

“It’s kind of similar to America’s Got Talent, kind of style, but our method,” said Pedro Lopez, ASB President at BBCC. “We’re hoping it’s going to be an exciting event; we see a lot of acts already signed up.” 

Applications for students wishing to enter the show ended Feb. 9, and Lopez said the ASB is working on whittling down to ten unique performances. Each performance will be about seven minutes in length, and some of the applications that have been submitted include piano playing, singing and dancing. 

“We want to have various types of performances, but we’re also hoping to highlight as many students as possible at our talent show,” he said. 

The show will act as a competition between each of the acts as the performances will be rated by four judges based on scores from 1-10 in five major categories, which include skill and technique, creativity and originality, stage presence and confidence, preparedness and entertainment value. Lopez said there will be prizes for those who win their categories. 

BBCC will also be serving light refreshments to guests during an intermission portion of the show. 

Lopez said that this talent show is an important opportunity to highlight students and allow them to express themselves in whatever way that means.  

“A lot of students are really talented here at Big Bend, and we just really want to highlight those students,” he said. 

As the talent show draws closer, Lopez said he and the other members of the ASB are not only excited to see what their fellow students are capable of, but are also excited to host one of the college’s major community events. 

“We hope to have a lot of people from the community join to see our Big Bend students show off their talents,” he said. “Really hoping we’re able to get a lot of engagement from the community in this event and just have it be really successful.”
