Basin preps for Seahawks trip to Super Bowl LX
MOSES LAKE — Local bars and restaurants throughout the Basin are hosting events for the Sunday’s championship matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol both put out press releases advising fans to “Be a Super Bowl Team Player: Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk.” The departments want to remind fans to drink responsibly, and the WSP provided some tips while celebrating Super Bowl LX.
“Super Bowl is a special event each year for our community to come together to celebrate, but we need responsible drivers on our roads," said WSP public Information Officer, Trooper Jeremy Weber.
For those hosting a Super Bowl party, the WSP said to prepare plenty of snacks and non-alcoholic drinks for guests and to designate drivers. Hosts should encourage guests to designate their sober drivers in advance and to eat food and drink plenty of water, not just consume alcohol.
The WSP press release also states it is never okay to serve alcohol to minors. If an underage person drinks and drives, the person who provided the alcohol can be held liable for any damage, injury or death caused by the underage driver.
Designated drivers should commit to a sober evening, according to the WSP. Designated drivers attending a party, bar or restaurant should enjoy the food, the company and the nonalcoholic drinks as their positive influence could help keep others on the right track.
Local authorities are urging everyone to celebrate Super Bowl LX safely by making a plan for a sober driver, using a taxi service or booking a rideshare before the festivities begin. Because alcohol clouds a person’s judgement, designated drivers should be prepared to help others who failed to plan ahead to find a safe and sober way home.
Community members are also encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers to local law enforcement. GCSO said in a statement that they will have law enforcement officers working emphasis patrol Sunday to keep the roads safe from drunk and impaired drivers.
